Champions To Heroes

Imagine the bedroom walls of young people, and consider the millions of dollars spent on sports and sports memorabilia. Americans place VALUE on the high-profile men and women who participate in sports in our country. Many want to emulate them, dream about their success, and admire their achievements. To achieve the best in life and leave a solid legacy, though, athletes in our culture must model a strong moral and spiritual character.
Every generation searches for answers to life's questions. Often, high-profile personalities are expected to know and live out those answers. They serve as role models but may live with little or no understanding of their values. Sports commentator, James Brown writes in his autobiography, "the definition of success and what it takes to be successful has been warped and twisted." those we look to for guidance, "the high-profile 'role models' are too often looking for a guiding light themselves."
Champions To Heroes (C2H) exists to provide the best mental training and mentoring for athletes (high school, collegiate, and professional) to reach peak and optimal performance in all areas of life. Anyone with a God-given gift can win a championship, but few have the tools to become the kind of person with the staying power of a genuine hero. C2H is a unique group of professionals in a range of disciplines as a part of the Cornerstone Creative Group of Cornerstone Lodge, Inc. As a non-profit, 501 (c) (3), we can provide the most strategic mental training techniques and mentoring from accomplished veterans and professionals. Our mentors come from the NFL, MLB, NBA, corporate America, and ethical coaches and individuals who want to make a difference.
Our program is laid out in three phases to firmly establish high personal standards and a "stay the course" commitment no matter what challenges or temptations athletes face. The goals of C2H are to assist each client in developing and solidifying a life plan, and to increase their mental skills for success in carrying out their specific and individualized plan.
To inquire about more details of the C2H program, or to get involved as a contributor or a mentor, contact us through our Counseling Center office in The Hope Center in Plano at 972-422-8383.

Let Me Tell You About Jessalea Newton!

If there's anyone who epitomizes the "Real Heart Real Change" theme of our work, it's Jessalea (pronounced Jess-a-LEE)! She's all heart! Not only that, she works with a great diligence with every one of her clients, whether they're a 6-year-old in a play therapy session, a 30-year old woman with depression, or a 55-year old who has recently struggled with a significant loss. Jessalea really works hard to gain a deep sense of rapport with those with whom she counsels, and has an amazing ability to show deep compassion, and insight, too!

Jessalea received her Masters degree from Dallas Baptist University, and is exceedingly close to completing her supervision requirements for gaining her full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She will give you a"best value" kind of feeling as you work with her on a very fair sliding scale fee. She gives more than 100% of her best skills - listening, REALLY hearing for those heart issues, and providing counsel that is ALWAYS consistent with Scripture and her scholarly learning. (Just like all of our counselors at CCA, Jessalea never stops reading - never stops working to learn new information - never stops until "real change" is effectively accomplished with her clientele!)

As you've gathered, Jessalea is a quite accomplished counselor! She has great skills in working with children in our wonderful new play therapy center. In addition, she is experienced in counseling in many issues of concern with women of all ages, including grief-related struggles, abuse-related issues, depression, anxiety, and is especially gifted in working with adolescent girls and their families!

She works in our Hope Center office at 2001 W. Plano Parkway, Suite 2300. You can make an appointment with Jessalea by calling us at 972-422-8383. Meet Brittany Crim

One of our finest counselors at The Hope Center is Brittany Crim! We’re really proud of the wonderful growth she has reached in her skill levels as she's worked through her internship toward becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. Brittany reached that milestone just a short time ago and now sports a newly framed license hanging in her office!

Brittany did her undergraduate work at The University of Texas in Austin (we don’t usually hold that against her – most of the time, that is) and she received her Master’s in Marriage and Family Counseling through Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She’s become one of our finest premarital and marriage counselors, and does a lot of work with families in distress. In addition, Brittany is a great counselor with young women who are dealing with a wide spectrum of counseling issues!

Once you meet her, you will see that she has a wonderfully compassionate heart as she counsels with every one of her clients!

Don’t’ let her young appearance fool you…she's wise beyond her years, and has been amazingly blessed by God with insight and the ability to communicate with great effectiveness! As with all our counselors at CCA, she strives for the highest levels of competence and confidentiality in every part of her work! You'll be blessed by the amazing knowledge of God’s Word and how she applies Biblical truths with the wonderful scholarly learning she continues to seek!

Call us at 972-422-8383 to set up an appointment time with Brittany or any of our fine counselors. we work on a very comfortable sliding scale so that cost won’t
be a major factor in your selection of just the right counselor for your needs!

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Let me tell you about our three offices and the fine folks who work there! I have two motives for telling you this...first of all, I know there are a lot of hurting individuals, couples, and families who really need the highest quality of Christian Counseling! Just as I know this, I also know that the people we have on our team ARE the best in the Metroplex, and I want you to know them better with every blog you read.

Secondly, my hope is simply that you'll learn who we are and pray for us each day! We understand that ours is very hard work, and we need all the prayer support that we can find! Every time you read our blog, in fact, we'll have a new prayer need or two (or more!) that we sincerely hope you'll take just one minute to voice a prayer for us!

One of our offices is in the London Square office comples just one block North from Park on Coit in Plano. The address is 2309 Coit, Suite A, Plano, TX 75075. We currently have two terrific counselors working in that office: Brooke Komar is a splendid LPC with lots of experience in working with young adults, families, and is especially gifted in helping young people using art therapy. Tim Marcy is also one of our counselors there, working as an LPC Intern. Tim has deep compassion and is a wonderful counselor with men, young men, and really with folks of all ages. Both Brooke and Tim work on very affordable sliding scales...we ask all our clients to pay for their sessions as they occur, and we give you documented receipts in case you wish to file for your own reimbursements. Call 972-422-8383 to make an appointment with any of our counselors!

Our newest office is in The Hope Center at 2001 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, TX 75075. We office with more than 40 other Christian ministries there, and our suite is #2300. We have ten caring counselors at The Hope Center office. I'll just give you their names, and you can look for their info (along with ALL our team) on our website at
http://www.counselgodsword.com/. Our Senior Counseling staff includes the following team members:

David Dickerson, LPC, LPC-S, LMFT, Clinical member of AAMFT
Roger Hale, LPC
Linda Lynn, RN, LPC
Dennis Madden, LPC
Donna Hogg, LPC

Brittany Crim, LPC, is also one of our licensed counselors.

Most of our Senior and Licensed Counselors work on a sliding scale that is very cost effective. Just as at all our offices, we ask clients to pay for each session and provide those documented receipts for filing their own insurance. (One or two of our Senior LPC's will consider filing insurance for you if there is a real cash-flow need, so please call and ask about that).

In addition, we have a few other LPC Interns who are just about to finish up all their hours of supervision. Our LPC Interns work on a reduced sliding scale that is somewhat more affordable than our experienced Senior and Counseling staff. You can inquire about this as you call for an appointment at 972-422-8383:

Jessalea Newton, LPC Intern
Matt McKinney, LPC Intern
Derrick Sledge, LPC Intern

We always have at least one Practicum Intern working with us...these folks are in the final stages of their Master's degeee in the counseling field. We've been so blessed to have some of the best of the best from area universities serving CCA. Our Practicum Interns have an even greater reduced sliding scale so we can provide very high quality counseling at a very low cost for our clients whose financial need dictates this need:

Doloras Guilliod, Practicum Intern.

Finally, our third office is at 1007 Church Street in Colleyville, TX 75034. While you can still call the 972-422-8383 number for making an appointment, we've discovered that a lot of folks in the Tarrant County area also require our highest standard of Christian Counseling. We have a great group of counselors there, too: These include David Dickerson, Jessalea Newton, Dennis Madden, and Linda Lynn who come from our Hope Center office. We also have three other really good Interns: Emily Trebolo, LPC Intern; Leeanne Barnett, LPC Intern, and Verone Travis, LPC Intern. All their bios and pictures are on the website:
http://www.counselgodsword.com/.

As I mentioned earlier, please pray for each of our counselors and for each counseling conversation they have, and if you'd like to make an appointment with any, call our office managers, Laura Hardman or Rachael Wright at 972-422-8383 to set up a time to come in!

Blessings!
